The castle was built at the end of the 15th century and its western part was rebuilt in the 18th century. It is characterized by architecture that combines Venetian style with Ottoman construction techniques; its shape is rectangular and its walls measure 9 by 1 meter. The area was used as a trading center by the Venetians. Numerous archaeological objects have been found in this castle, which prove the antiquity of the castle and the village of Vilë-Bashtovë.
