Lekuresi Castle is located southeast of the city of Saranda, in a unique strategic position from where the entire city, the Corfu Channel, and the Ksamil Islands can be controlled. This castle was built around 1537 on earlier ruins of the old village of Lekuresi. The construction of the castle coincides with the time when Sultan Suleiman attacked Corfu and the need arose to control the Saranda port, along with the road connecting the city to Butrint. Lekuresi Castle has a square shape, with two round towers placed at its northwest and southeast corners. The ground floor served as a storage and warehouse. It is evident from its location that the main purpose of the castle's construction was to monitor the sea. The walls' height reaches 6.7-7 m, and their thickness is up to 2 m. It was declared a monument of historical and cultural value in May 1970.
