Triangular Castle of Vivari is a fortress on the Butrint Peninsula, located on the southern shore of the Vivari Canal. It is named for its triangular plan shape. At each of its three corners, round towers were built, with the southwestern tower preserved at full height.\r\n\r\nThe first construction phase, dating to the 13th\u201314th centuries, includes only the castle walls, traces of some internal buildings, and loopholes covered with slab-shaped roofs. In a second phase, the two-story southwestern tower was built. Meanwhile, the other two towers, which are similar in construction technique, shape, and interior architecture, belong to a third construction phase. The fourth phase (17th\u201318th centuries) includes the interior spaces supported by the southern and western walls.\r\n\r\nThe castle is located near the Venetian Acropolis Castle. In 1386, the Venetians purchased the land around Butrint from the Angevins, and the castle was built at the highest point of the peninsula, where it was easiest to defend.
